25 years ago on April 17th, I couldn’t find my parents at home. It was Srirama Navami. My thatha said they have gone to hospital. My dad came in by afternoon announcing everybody was fine and a baby girl is coming home. The day after I did make a hospital visit, I still remember the new born’s smell.
As I’m trying to recollect I think I had my contribution in her name. But not sure who came up with the name Sriramya. I do remember a few snapshots of her naming cermony. ‘Just Born’ was a store we visited to buy her baby clothes. My dad was extremly proud and was insistent on getting everything for Sriramya. He made it his life’s mission that she had the best.
So as it happened, Sriramya turned out be dad’s favourite. I still remember the early morning where we had to finish her first homework. The alphabets A, B and C. Poor Ramya was in tears by the end of the ‘task’. Then on everyone made sure, she noted down the right things in her school diary and informed us of her homework in advance. As it turns out she turned out being smart in academics.
Not much had to be done for excelling in school, she breezed through them with excellence. As I moved to undergrad college, away from home, I missed the little fights between us. But I also greatly missed sharing my thoughts on her career development and social outlook. Who could forget her undergrad college admission day. We both were present someone who was there all through her life was missing. But his blessings made us to pick the right decision (I hope 🙂 ). I heard she had quite some fun in College 😉
Mom had a hands off approach in parenting and showed Ramya the route to God through prayers. Mom also made an effort in keeping us in ground by emphasing the true bonds in relationships.
Last year Sriramya married into a new family and things are going great. Let the shine continue in your life and today…WISHING A VERY HAPPY BIRTHDAY, SIS.
